What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
Last year no sitting board members had kids attending school in the Maize district. We need parent representation on the board. Any board is better when it is diverse and our current board is lacking diversity. We currently have quite a few educators or retired educators on the board. I could offer a different perspective on many decisions that face the board. I want to be a voice for parents, teachers and students. I will show up to the meetings prepared with research and ready to ask questions.
What would your top 3 policy priorities be?
1. Teacher morale, salaries and retention are current issues that needs to be addressed.
2. I also believe there is an issue with college readiness. Our graduation rate is extremely high (93%) but the amount of graduates that hit all 4 college readiness benchmarks is only 35%.
3. Transparency needs to be improved upon. There is a difference between transparency and communication. Our district does well at communicating (sending emails) but we don’t do a good job of telling families why or how certain decisions are made.
