What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?
Masking/ Vaccines. Our BOE adopted a new policy in September where we evaluate the numbers per school building, per week to determine the need for mandatory masks. because of this policy change the majority of the district has not been in a mask mandate. Usually when a building is, it only takes a week or two to get out of that circumstance. I believe this policy is a common sense decision when we need it.
I am vaccinated. After visiting with my doctor and weighing the options I felt that was best for me. I am NOT for mandatory vaccinations. I believe each person/family should be able to visit with their doctor and determine what is best for them.
What would your top 3 policy priorities be?
Kids First. I am a retired teacher of 36 years, My wife and daughter teach elementary school. we come from a long line of teachers in our family. I believe I can can represent a “first hand” account of how policies and programs will affect kids directly.
Top 3 top priorities:
1. identify the learning gaps kids have from “covid -education years” and provide solutions to help kids catch up. part of that process is also using personal relationship and programs to re-engage kids in schools to help support their emotional social/emotional growth as well.
2. We just completed out first accreditation cycle and we need to hit the ground running on our next one, and communicate with our staff and patrons about that process.
3. Start planning for a projected growth in the next few years- we have 250+ new homes going up in the near future and we will need to plan for additional numbers and look at possibly adding to and retaining our talented staff.
