Crystal Walter, candidate for Clearwater City Council

Name: Crystal Walter

Age: 48

Occupation: Marketing Director

Previous government service: I currently serve on the Clearwater City Council.

Have you run for office before? (Please list any previous offices sought)

I was appointed to the Clearwater City Council, but I have not run for office.

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?

The top issue in the race is attracting more businesses and residents to Clearwater. It’s important to remember that not every business or family wants to locate in a big city. Clearwater’s best-selling point is that it is the best of both worlds. We have a small-town feel, while also being located within a short driving distance of the largest city in Kansas. To attract more businesses we need to market the culture of Clearwater, while also fostering our current businesses, to ensure their continued growth and stability. I also strongly believe that we should nurture an enriched quality of life through the support of Clearwater parks and recreation while also promoting and adding community activities.

What would your top 3 policy priorities be?

1. Support an enriched quality of life through support of parks, recreation and promote community activities, thereby attracting new businesses and residents

2. Make efficient use of Clearwater resources and maintain the city’s long‑term financial stability

3. Foster collaboration with all community partners, including Clearwater schools and the business community
