Maize USD 266 Board of Education

What is the top issue in your race, and how would you address it?

Teacher morale is the top issue in Maize USD 266 currently as we emerge into a post COVID-19 world. In speaking with many teachers, I have learned our most experienced teachers are frustrated with take home pay and perceived lack of support from building administration. They are the best teachers in the metropolitan area (confirmed by the recent NICHE.com evaluation of metro Wichita), but then fall well short with their salaries and their benefits leading to lower take home pay. This is a slap in the face. Accordingly, we should be prepared to lose some of our best teachers. We should be more economical in terms of cost savings as well as time savings by in retaining quality teachers in this district. This also leads to more continuity in our buildings. Our most experienced teachers need to mentor our less experienced teachers. It is well past time for us to practice what we preach and pay the inherent costs associated with being the best district in the metropolitan area.

What would your top 3 policy priorities be?

Teacher Salaries; Connecting Parents with Teachers and the Board of Education; Improving Grade-Level Proficiency and Progress Toward Meeting Kansas Educational Standards
