N.J. Gov. Chris Christie in Kansas to campaign for Sam Brownback (VIDEO)

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie made a campaign and ice cream stop in Wichita at Freddy’s Frozen Custard with Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback on Monday.

Christie, a potential 2016 candidate for president, is barnstorming the country on behalf of Republican candidates in tight races. Polls show Brownback is in one of the tightest, a dead heat for re-election against challenger Paul Davis, the House minority leader from Lawrence.

In a five-minute news conference, Christie praised Brownback as a man of action.

“In the end, what people want more than anything else is for people to tell them the truth,” Christie said. “And they like to see government actually be effective. And it doesn’t matter whether you’re East Coast or Midwest or on the West Coast, down South, in the Plains.

“They’re so sick and tired of what’s going on in Washington, and that’s why Gov. Brownback is such a strong contrast,” Christie added. “He and the lieutenant governor have really achieved great things here.”

Christie campaigned earlier with Brownback in the Kansas City area. He said he’ll make one or maybe two more trips to Kansas before the Nov. 4 election.

Brownback and Christie both ordered turtle sundaes at Freddy’s. Brownback picked up the $8.12 tab.

Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer ordered and paid for his own banana and hot fudge sundae.

He got served first.
