Wichita Downtown Development Corporation, Go Wichita will support sales tax vote
The Wichita Downtown Development Corporation’s board of directors and the Go Wichita Convention and Visitors Bureau board have voted to support the 1 cent-per-dollar sales tax that will decided by voters in November.
The groups join the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce in support of the initiative.
If passed, the sales tax would collect nearly $400 million over five years. It would fund several projects, including $250 million for a new water supply, $27.8 million on street maintenance and repaid, $80 million in job development and $39.8 million on transit.
Wichita does not currently have a city sales tax. The current sales tax in Sedgwick County is 7.15 percent.
Two groups have recently formed for those who support or oppose the tax.
