Registration deadline for general election March 17
Tuesday is the last day to register to vote before the April 7 general election.
The Sedgwick County Election Office will begin mailing advance ballots for city and school board races in the county on Wednesday, said Tabitha Lehman, election officer.
Voters in certain areas will also decide ballot questions: Wichita’s marijuana proposal to reduce penalties for first-time possession; an $180,000 bond issue for a splash pad park and retention ponds in the Oaklawn Improvement District; and a $2.5 million bond question for school improvements in Burrton.
More than 5,500 advance ballots had been requested by Friday, Lehman said.
During the last mayoral primary in 2011, about 8,000 advance ballots were mailed out.
People who are not registered to vote in Kansas can register at http://www.voteks.org/ or https://www.kdor.org/voterregistration/.
To register, you must submit records of U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate, passport or naturalization documents.
To register to vote online, according to the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office, you must have a valid Kansas driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card. Voters who do not have either may register using a paper form, available at the election office or online.
First-time registrants must submit evidence of U.S. citizenship, which can be scanned and uploaded online or mailed, faxed, e-mailed or delivered to the election office.
