Bob Dole has endorsed Roger Marshall in the race for his former congressional seat.

“Roger has proven himself to be a capable leader and coalition-builder,” Dole said in a statement sent out by the Marshall campaign. “It is important for Kansans to know they have the calm, steady hand of a conservative leader at the helm.”

Dole served as the representative in the Big First congressional district from 1963 to 1969 before his career in the U.S. Senate.

Marshall, a Great Bend physician, defeated incumbent Rep. Tim Huelskamp in the recent Republican primary. In June, Dole used one of his first posts from his Twitter account to criticize Huelskamp.

Marshall will face Libertarian Kerry Burt and indepedent candidate Alan LaPolice in the November election.
