Gov. Sam Brownback and Kansas Sen. Pat Roberts will advise presidential candidate Donald Trump on agricultural issues, according to a news release from the Trump-Pence campaign.

Two other Kansans will join Brownback and Roberts on Trump’s Agricultural Advisory Committee: Jay Armstrong, past chairman of the Kansas Wheat Commission and board member of the Farm Foundation; and David Spears, a former agriculture advisor for U.S. Sen. Bob Dole, current senior vice president of Mid-Kansas Cooperative and former member of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Trump’s news release about the advisory board said: “The formation of the board represents Donald J. Trump’s endorsement of these individuals’ diverse skill sets and ideas that can improve the lives of those in agricultural communities.”

The statement went on to say that the 64-person board would convene regularly. It also stated that many of the board members had been elected by their communities to solve agricultural issues that impact rural areas.

Roberts is chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee and former chairman of the House Agriculture Committee. Brownback formerly served as Kansas secretary of agriculture.
