The second and final public hearing on the Sedgwick County recommended budget will be Thursday night.

It will be in the commission room on the third floor of the Sedgwick County Courthouse downtown. The public may sign up to speak at 5:30 p.m. The meeting starts at 6 p.m.

There was only one speaker at the July 27 hearing, which concerned some commissioners.

County Manager Michael Scholes presented his first recommended budget July 13. It boosted the public safety side of county government – EMS, the district attorney’s office and the Regional Forensic Science Center – and avoided the types of cuts seen in the proposed budget last summer. It continued the use of cash reserves to pay for road and bridge projects, a practice that divides commissioners.

You can view the budget and access the online budget hearing at sedgwickcounty.org/finance/budget.asp. The budget will be adopted Aug. 10.
