Brownback says Trump would do better job handling terrorism than Clinton (+video)
Gov. Sam Brownback thinks real estate mogul Donald Trump would do a better job of dealing with global terrorism than former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The governor was asked Tuesday whether he had any concerns about the violence that has taken place both inside and outside Trump rallies. Brownback immediately shifted the topic to the terror attack that took place in Brussels on Tuesday.
“I’ll tell you what I’m very concerned about, and that’s what’s been happening in Brussels last night and these terrorist attacks that keep happening. I am deeply concerned about that,” Brownback said. “That is a pattern that keeps happening.”
Brownback had endorsed U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio for the GOP presidential nomination – Rubio has since dropped out of the race – before the Kansas Republican caucus earlier this month, but he previously had said he would back Trump over the Democratic nominee if Trump wins the Republican nomination.
Asked whether he thought Trump would do a better job of dealing with global terrorism than Democratic front-runner Clinton, Brownback responded: “I do.”
“But I think we as a country have to decide that this isn’t a necessarily ‘whose president’ issue,” Brownback said. “It’s about the country deciding to go on offense and deal with it. That’s we did after 9/11.”
Brownback repeatedly said he thinks the country has to become more aggressive in dealing with terrorism.
The attacks in the Belgian capital killed at least 30 people and wounded more than 230. Terror group the Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack. Brownback has ordered Kansas flags at half-staff through Saturday in memory of the victims.
“I’m very troubled that those sort of things are happening in Europe, and they could happen here,” Brownback said. “And they have happened here.”
