You can text to save a spot in line at Sedgwick County’s tag offices beginning Tuesday.

The system will allow you to send a text message to reserve a place in line or make an appointment. You then will be notified when you are close to the front of the line. You will be updated every 30 minutes.

“It’s really simple to use, and it’s going to be a good thing for us,” said Sedgwick County Treasurer Linda Kizzire on Monday. “It’s been a long time coming.”

The system was set up by QLess Inc. Commissioners voted to accept the QLess bid back in September.

“Of course, with any new system we might have a couple of kinks, but we’ll work through them very rapidly,” Kizzire said.

It will cost $53,800 for the software, setup and operation of the system in the first year, then $35,000 each of the following two years to maintain and support it.

The number to text is 316-395-2940. You need to send different messages depending on which tag office you want to go to. Those codes are:

▪ “SGBRITTANYTAG” for the Brittany Tag Office at 2120 N. Woodlawn

▪ “SGMURDOCKTAG” for the Main Tag Office at 200 W. Murdock

▪ “SGCHADSWORTHTAG” for the Chadsworth Tag Office at 2330 N. Maize

▪ “SGDERBYTAG” for the Derby Tag Office at 212 W. Greenway

The office for driver’s licenses uses the same technology.
