Sedgwick County to host commission meeting in Derby
Sedgwick County will host a commission meeting in Derby in April.
County commissioners will conduct the meeting at the Derby Welcome Center on April 18. The five-member board normally meets Wednesday mornings at the county courthouse in downtown Wichita.
“I think we’re just too removed from our constituents. We need to be able to be more accessible to the public,” said commission Chairman Jim Howell, who represents Derby and southeast Wichita. “If this works well, we’ll schedule the next one.”
There will be a meet and greet at 6 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., said Kate Flavin, interim county public information officer.
Howell had previously floated the idea of moving county commission meetings out of downtown and into the county’s five districts.
“We decided to go with the chairman’s district first,” Flavin said.
