Brownback to tour correctional facilities in El Dorado, around the state
Gov. Sam Brownback will tour correctional facilities and meet with inmates this week, as he highlights programs aimed at reducing recidivism.
Brownback will visit El Dorado Correctional Facility at 10 a.m. Wednesday, touring a newly built chapel with Sen. Michael O’Donnell, R-Wichita, and outgoing Secretary of Corrections Ray Roberts.
Brownback will also be making stops at the Johnson County Adult Residential Center on Tuesday to meet with an ex-offender who went through the facilities program and the Ellsworth Correctional Facility on Thursday to meet with an inmate who is training a dog to be a service animal as part of his rehabilitation program.
“These partnerships and programs offer hope and help to offenders who are willing to work hard to rebuild their lives,” Brownback said in a statement. “Community support and the commitment of the men and women who work in the Corrections system make it possible for us to protect public safety and help offenders build a new and better life for themselves and their families.”
Brownback will also tout the Department of Corrections’ Mentoring for Success program for juvenile offenders Thursday at his ceremonial office in Topeka.
