Public parking lots in downtown Wichita are getting payment kiosks

Installation of payment kiosks at some downtown Wichita parking lots begins Monday.

It’s part of a second phase of the city’s rollout for paid parking in the downtown area, the city said in a news release.

“Phase 2 will focus on public parking lots throughout downtown and includes adding two payment kiosks at Century II,” the release read.

Payment kiosks will be installed in lots near Century II and its convention center, the parking lot underneath Kellogg, the lot near Kellogg and Emporia, the lot outside Norton’s Brewing Company on St. Francis and the large lot near the Wichita Transit offices.

Many of these lots are used for event parking at Century II and INTRUST Bank Arena.

Rates for the lots start at a dollar an hour or a $5 daily rate when event parking rates aren’t in effect. Enforcement in those lots will begin when kiosks are installed and operational.

Payments can be made via phone or mobile app, and most meters will take card or coin payment.

The city’s private contractor, The Car Park, will enforce parking regulations Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Sundays are free.

The city’s first phase of implementing paid parking began last month along Douglas, Emporia and St. Francis streets in downtown Wichita.
