Tuesday is last day to register to vote before general election
Tuesday is the last day to register to vote before the Nov. 4 general election.
Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman said her office will begin mailing out advance ballots Wednesday.
About 44,000 people had requested advance ballots by mail as of Friday afternoon, she said. That’s down about 10,000 from 2010.
She emphasized that although her office will start mailing advance ballots Wednesday, people still can request one after that.
“We mail every day,” she said.
Voters can request a ballot by mail up until Oct. 31, she said. However, she doesn’t recommend people wait that long because the ballots have to be returned by 7 p.m. on Election Day.
Information about registering to vote is available at https://www.kdor.org/voterregistration/.
To register to vote online, according to the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office, you must have a valid Kansas driver’s license or non-driver’s identification card. Voters who do not have either may register using a paper form, available at the election office or online. First-time registrants must submit evidence of U.S. citizenship, which can be scanned and uploaded online or mailed, faxed, e-mailed or delivered to the election office.
Registered voters can download an advance ballot application online at www.edgwickcounty.org/elections. Voters also may request an advance ballot by calling 316-660-7100. Completed application may be sent by e-mail to VoterInformation@sedgwick.gov, by mail at Sedgwick County Election Office, 510 N. Main Suite 101, Wichita, KS 67203, or by fax at 316-660-7125.
Advance voting in person begins Oct. 22 in the election office in Suite 101 of the historic courthouse, 510 N. Main in Wichita.
Advance voting centers will open at noon Oct. 28.
