If you’ve got something you want to tell your Kansas legislators before they go back into session Monday, you could have your chance Tuesday night. But you’ll need to move quickly.

The south central Kansas legislative delegation will hold its annual pre-session public forum at 6:30 p.m Tuesday at the Intrust Bank Arena.

The forum allows residents two to three minutes each to vent their concerns to members on any topic.

But speakers are limited to 30, first come, first served. And as of Monday at noon, only five spots remained open.

Laura Rainwater, who is organizing the forum through the Regional Economic Area Partnership, said she planned to keep the event registration site open until midnight Monday or until all the speaking opportunities are taken.

This year’s forum marks a return to the traditional in-person format. Last year’s was online-only because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While past years’ sessions have been held at Wichita City Hall or the Sedgwick County Courthouse, the event has been moved this year to the arena to give speakers and the audience more room to socially distance to reduce the chance of spreading COVID-19, Rainwater said.

The event is open to the public. The arena is at 500 E. Waterman, Wichita.
