The current impasse in Topeka has caught the attention of the Old Gray Lady. The New York Times published an article about Kansas’ current budget woes this past weekend.

The occasion for the national article seemed to be mostly delight that Republicans were being forced to raise taxes. The article was titled, “To Fill Budget Hole, Kansas G.O.P. Consider the Unthinkable: Raising Taxes.” It also mentions how unusual this is for Kansas, pointing out that this is the sixth longest legislative session in history.

Despite meeting until 2 a.m. this morning, Kansas lawmakers have yet to extricate themselves from the legislative gridlock that is receiving national attention.
