Guv gets no love sporting T-shirt with logos of both Jayhawks, Shockers

How big was Sunday’s round-of-32 NCAA Tournament game between Kansas and Wichita State in Omaha, Neb.?

Big enough that Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and his wife, Mary, were among those in attendance at CenturyLink Center.

The governor even got some national-television time in the second half, when he was shown on the arena’s big screens wearing a politically correct T-shirt bearing the logos of both KU and the Shockers.

The image drew boos from some of those in attendance, and immediate blowback on social media.

After the game, Brownback made his way to the Wichita State locker room, where he congratulated the Shockers and donned a bright yellow shirt emblazoned in black with the words “KINGS OF KANSAS.”

Sunday’s game, won 78-65 by the seventh-seeded Shockers, 30-4, was the first time Kansas and Wichita State had played since 1993. Kansas, 27-9, was seeded second.

Brownback, 58, did his undergraduate work at Kansas State and earned his doctoral degree at KU.
