Wichita picks new municipal court judge

Assistant City Attorney Aaron Zarchan will become a judge at the Wichita Municipal Court.

Zarchan, who has worked for the city for 17 years, was the City Council’s unanimous choice on Tuesday. He got the nod over two other finalists: Kellie Hogan of Kansas Legal Services and Becky Hurtig, a Derby lawyer.

The finalists were selected by a five-member committee made up of three lawyers and two nonlawyers.

Zarchan will replace Judge Jennifer Lind-Spahn, who retired in April.
