A teaching assistant in South Carolina is facing charges after authorities say he caused kids to get sick and damaged a school with a spray.

Between Aug. 25 and Sept. 19, the West Florence High School teaching assistant discharged a spray he got online that was made to “imitate fecal odor,” the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said in a Sept. 20 Facebook post.

The teaching assistant used the spray on multiple occasions, ultimately disrupting the school and causing kids to have respiratory issues and need medical attention, deputies said.

The spray led to a $55,000 cost for inspection and damage to the school’s air conditioning system, authorities said.

The teaching assistant was arrested and charged with disturbing schools and malicious injury to property.

McClatchy News reached out to the Florence 1 Schools superintendent but did not immediately hear back.
