Man posing as rideshare driver sexually assaults woman, California cops say
A woman was sexually assaulted by a driver she thought was from the rideshare service she hailed, California police say.
The woman got into the backseat of what she believed was her requested ride in San Diego just after 1 a.m. March 15, the San Diego Police Department said in a series of June 25 posts on X, formerly known as Twitter.
While pretending to be a driver from a rideshare service, the man drove a few miles with the woman and then sexually assaulted her, police said.
When the woman got into the car, the Pacific Beach area was crowded, San Diego police Lt. Dan Sayasane told KFMB.
“There’s a lot of people out, so we’re just hoping that someone may have seen this person possibly driving this type of vehicle in the area,” Sayasane said.
The man is described as being about 30 years old with “brown eyes, average to muscular build, shoulder-length curly hair, a large nose, mustache and beard,” police said.
At the time of the alleged assault, the man was driving what was believed to be a 2022 to 2025 Toyota Prius, according to police.
Police said they are trying to determine if there are more victims.
