A skier tumbled 1,000 feet down a Colorado mountain, and 911 calls to report the incident kept dropping, deputies said.

The 29-year-old fell Saturday, June 14, before 10:30 a.m. on South Arapaho Peak, near Nederland, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

He was going down the Skywalker Couloir when he slipped and tumbled down the mountain, deputies said.

Multiple people tried to call 911 to report his serious injuries, but their 911 calls kept dropping because of poor cell phone service, deputies said.

The multiple calls initially led authorities to believe there were two incidents on the mountain.

One woman hiked to the top of a peak to get service and told rescuers where the injured man was, deputies said.

He was airlifted from the mountain and taken to a hospital.

South Arapaho Peak is 13,408 feet above sea level and part of the Rocky Mountains.

Nederland is about a 45-mile drive northwest from Denver.
