Scared dog was saved from sweltering streets a year ago. He still needs a home

A dog in Indiana has been waiting too long for a home after he was rescued from the stifling streets of the Hoosier State.
Meet the perfectly named Ice Cube, a 3-year-old pit bull mix with a sandy brown coat and a resilient nature. A year ago, he had no one and was frightened wandering the streets on his own.
“It’s been over a year, and Ice Cube is still waiting,” the Humane Society for Hamilton County in Fishers said in a June 3 Facebook post.
“Found wandering the streets of Westfield on a dangerously hot evening last May, he came to us overheated and suffering from heatstroke, scared, and alone. Our team rushed to his side, gave him the care he needed, and watched as this quiet, thoughtful dog slowly began to trust again.”
The thing about Ice Cube is, one won’t be able to simply receive his love and trust right off the bat.
“Though Ice Cube may always prefer to keep his circle small, his future family can be assured that with time and patience, he has the potential to form a deep, meaningful bond with those who earn his trust,” his pet profile says.
“He’s spent a lot of time working with our behavior team, learning the importance of respect and boundaries on both sides.”
Since it takes him a second or two to warm up, it’s best if Ice Cube goes to a household that’s calm — and void of cats — where he can have a routine, the shelter says.
“He may not greet you with instant tail wags or sloppy kisses, but when he chooses you, you’ll know it’s real. His love is earned, and that makes it all the more meaningful,” the shelter continued.
Patience is needed when it comes to this guy, and — “just like his namesake, is cool, steady, and always unique,” his profile notes.
