Two men accused of “viciously” attacking an off-duty officer in New York were arrested in Virginia after a multi-state manhunt, authorities said.

Surveillance video taken at about 4 a.m. May 24 showed two masked men beating the officer and holding a knife to his throat then taking his belongings, including his wallet, phone and firearm, the U.S. Marshals Service and the New York Police Department said in news releases.

U.S. Marshals Service Senior Inspector Aaron Rhodenizer said the 27-year-old officer was on his way home from working extra in the Bronx when the attack happened, according to WTVR.

He was taken to a hospital with multiple fractures, the NYPD said.

One of the suspects — 23-year-old Taveon Hargrove — was captured May 27 in North Chesterfield after investigators learned that he left New York and “was possibly staying with a family friend,” according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

The next day, 23-year-old Wayne Lucas was taken into custody in Virginia in connection with the attack, New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a May 28 post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The men will face a judge in Chesterfield and Richmond before being extradited to New York, WTVR reported.

Hargrove’s father was also arrested after being accused of using the officer’s credit cards, News12 reported.

The officer was discharged from the hospital May 28, according to police.
