A puppy named Roxy experienced what true kindness feels like with the help of a Texas shelter and one determined person.

The Houston Humane Society shared Roxy’s story in a Aug. 12 Facebook post that spoke about Roxy’s depressing start in the world.

“While driving back from a swim meet between El Campo and West Columbia, a rescuer spotted Roxy alone in the pouring rain,” the post said. “Passing her initially, a gut-wrenching feeling made her turn back. As soon as she opened her car door, Roxy ran straight to her, desperate for help.”

According to the post, Roxy’s rescuer was rejected by many shelters — most likely due to overcrowding — until going to the Houston shelter, which ended up fostering the puppy despite being full.

But Roxy’s tough journey wasn’t finished yet. While she did find happiness with a new home, she had to get healthy first.

“Roxy arrived with fleas, ticks, worms—everything no three-month-old puppy should endure. Despite her tough start, she’s now a healthy, smart, and incredibly loving puppy,” the post said.
