A historic house that is the real estate equivalent of a breath of fresh air has listed in Charleston, South Carolina, for $3.8 million.
It’s called the Stiles-Hinson House, and the five-bedroom, six-bathroom home was built in 1742 by Benjamin Stiles, a pioneer planter, South Carolina Historic Properties Record says.
“The eighteenth-century architecture is masterfully evident with its original 1740s bell-cast roof, original footprint and original mantels,” the listing on Zillow.com describes.
“This portion of the home comprises a cozy first floor family room and screened porch plus an expansive second floor, fifth bedroom/office with ensuite bathroom. In c. 1891, Stiles’ 3X-grandson, William G. Hinson significantly increased the living space with an Empire-style three-story addition.”
In 1974, the 5,336-square-foot home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of James Island’s oldest residences, according to the listing.
