Bicyclist’s gear found days after he vanished in California, but he’s still missing
A California man went mountain biking and never returned home, officials said.
Terry Knight, a 66-year-old from McCloud, went trail cutting on his mountain bike in the Mount Shasta Forest on Wednesday, June 22, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said. He was reported missing that day.
Officials started a search and rescue mission looking for Knight.
For days, rescuers scoured the area. Crews used K-9 teams and a helicopter to search for Knight, the sheriff’s office said.
On Saturday, June 25, rescuers found Knight’s mountain bike, helmet and clothing near Mud Creek, which is about 250 miles northwest of Sacramento.
“Immediately the SCSO SAR sent additional crews to the area to perform a thorough grid search,” officials said in a news release. “A CHP helicopter flew overhead to try and locate him. Unfortunately, Mr. Knight remains missing.”
Officials continue to search for Knight. On Monday, June 27, the sheriff’s office added two mountain bike teams, six K-9 teams and an ATV team to search the area.
Anyone with information can report what they know to the sheriff’s office at its public information officer line: 530-598-9375.
