An ankle monitor an Alaska man had been wearing showed no movement for days, police said. Then police found the man dead in a tote, according to an affidavit.

Pretrial Enforcement Division officers requested police go check on Keenan Wegener on Sunday, March 20, after an ankle monitor he was wearing had no movement for two days.

When officers went to Wegener’s home address, a person told them he had not been seen in days.

The next day, police returned to the home because the ankle monitor had not moved from the address. They pinged the ankle monitor and could hear it going off in the garage.

The owner of the property let officers into the home, according to the affidavit. Officers walked through the house’s common areas and found a doorway into the garage, which was blocked by a toolbox.

Police found a large sheet that was blocking a portion of the garage, the affidavit stated. When police removed the sheet, they saw a body in a large tote on the floor.

Police said the body looked like Wegener based on a Facebook photo.

“The body was a male who had blood and injuries to the facial area,” the affidavit said. “(An officer) said he could hear the ankle monitor divide but didn’t see it.”

Wegener had injuries “consistent with blunt force trauma,” but did not see if there were other injuries on his body.

Police began investigating the man’s death as a homicide. The homeowner told police in an interview that men, including Wegener, had been yelling and arguing in the home Friday, March 18.

Adam Pringle, 39, told the homeowner he “knocked out Wegener” and asked her to help him since she was a nurse, according to the affidavit. The homeowner told the men to call 911.

However, Pringle said Wegener would be fine, according to the affidavit. The homeowner was afraid of Pringle and another man, 44-year-old Daniel Rocero, she told police.

Pringle and Rocero were both charged with second-degree murder, according to the Anchorage Police Department. Police did not give a motive.
