Live deer found in car stopped for suspicion of DUI, PA cops say. Watch it get freed
A woman suspected of driving under the influence had a surprise for the Pennsylvania police officers who pulled her over.
There was a deer in the car’s hatchback. A live deer.
Newberry Township police officers had pulled over a woman around midnight on Jan. 6. That’s when an officer noticed a live deer in the back of the car, the release said.
The two people in the car, a 19-year-old driver and her 21-year-old passenger, told officers that they’d hit the deer with the car and pulled over to put the animal in the hatchback.
They continued driving with the animal passenger, even as they realized the deer was alive. Officers asked the 21-year-old passenger to release the deer from the vehicle.
Video of the traffic stop shows the male passenger hoisting the squirming deer out of the back of the car, carrying the animal to the side of the road and letting it go while officers looked on.
The driver was taken into custody as part of a DUI investigation, police said.
Newberry Township is about 13 miles south of Harrisburg.
