A 15-year-old boy was trick-or-treating with friends on Halloween in Colorado when he was struck and killed by a car, his family told media outlets.

A nurse in training stayed with Wyatt Lobato until he was taken to a hospital, KUSA reported.

It was just a split second,” Wyatt’s mother, Natalie Hernandez, told KMGH-TV. “Sometimes, you don’t see it. It just can happen to anybody.”

April Rosales Wilkerson was headed to get more candy in Aurora on Oct. 31 when Wyatt was hit, KUSA reported.

“I did not want him to go on the side of the street. I wanted him to make it to the point where he could be taken to the hospital and his family could see him and say goodbye if they had to,” Rosales Wilkerson told the news outlet.

Wyatt was struck by a Subaru Forester around 6:15 p.m., the Aurora Police Department said in a news release.

His mother said it was just the beginning of his night, according to a GoFundMe page.

The driver of the car, a woman, stayed and spoke to officers, police said.

Police said Wyatt stepped into the street and in front of the car before he was hit.

Neither speed nor drugs or alcohol were a factor, authorities determined.

The investigation is ongoing.

“There are no amount of words or characters you can describe about a person. Wyatt was so much bigger than a short paragraph detailing his life,” his mother wrote on the fundraising page.

Information for his funeral service will also be released soon, a relative, Nichelle Hernández Ortiz, posted on Facebook.

“We’re taking it minute by minute, day by day, Wyatt will always be in our hearts,” she wrote on Nov. 2.
