Crackers sold by Publix, Walmart and others recalled for a possibly ‘serious’ problem
A packaging mistake with serious consequences to some people caused a recall of crackers sold at Publix, Winn-Dixie, Walmart, Kroger and other stores nationwide.
Four lots of Simple Mills Fine Ground Sea Salt Almond Flour Cracker boxes got pulled because they might have Farmhouse Cheddar Almond Flour Crackers. That’s a mistake that’s humorous to infuriating to most people. But the Fine Ground Sea Salt variety doesn’t have milk, so if Farmhouse Cheddar, which has milk, is in the box, milk is an undeclared allergen and a problem for people with a milk allergy.
“Some people who have an extreme allergy or severe sensitivity to milk could run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the Simple Mills-written, FDA-posted recall notice says.
The alert also says a customer alerted the company to the problem and Simple Mills knows of one consumer “experiencing mild symptoms.”
The recall was announced on the FDA website and several store websites such as Publix, Winn-Dixie, Kroger and Walmart, which also posted a 61-page PDF listing all the stores at which the crackers were sold.
Lot codes recalled are designated by their best by dates: 2/12/2022; 2/13/2022; 2/14/2022; and 2/15/2022.
If you have these crackers, there’s no chance anyone with a milk allergy will grab them and you’re just as good with Farmhouse Chedder as Fine Ground Sea Salt anyway, don’t do anything but eat and enjoy.
If these crackers might pass the lips of a milk allergy person, return them to the store for a full refund or toss them in the trash.
