‘Curious pup’ starts a house fire in New Mexico, then relaxes on the couch, video shows
Ever wonder what your pets are doing when you’re not watching them?
A New Mexico fire department shared a video Monday of a 9-month-old puppy knocking over an ironing board and a few other items in the corner of a home. Then he goes to the couch and relaxes, the video shows. The “curious pup caused a home fire,” according to a Facebook post from the Los Alamos County Fire Department.
“LAFD responded to a structure fire where two pets had evacuated safely,” the Los Alamos department said. “LAFD recommends homeowners ensure that smoke alarms are installed and working, that no combustible items be placed on or within three feet of heating devices or heat producing appliances.”
Kahuna, the puppy, was playing with things set up near the home’s floor grate for the heat furnace, according to KOAT7.
Investigators said the heat melted items and started a fire inside the furnace unit, KOAT7 reported.
“Another important safety practice is to have an escape plan as demonstrated perfectly in the video,” the fire department said.
