His roommate drew phallic symbols on his face. To retaliate, he set fire to the house
After a Colorado woman drew phallic symbols on her passed-out roommate’s face, the roommate set fire to the garage of the town-home they shared.
The man who allegedly started the fire – Stephen Elmore, 25 – has been charged on suspicion of first-degree arson, the Aspen Times reported.
“I asked Elmore what started (the fire), and he said, ‘It was just like by her … drawing penises on my face,’ ” a Snowmass Village officer wrote in an affidavit read by the Aspen Times. “I asked Elmore if he was just really pissed off and he said, 'Yeah come on man … this is bull ... ”
Officers and firefighters responded to the fire at about 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, according to a release from the Snowmass Village Police Department. Crews then discovered that the small fire was intentionally set.
The residents managed to extinguish the fire before crews arrived, the Aspen Times reported, and they said the flames reached 3- to 4-feet high.
“Elmore was not present at the home when police arrived, though he walked up not long after wearing only socks on his feet, according to the affidavit,” the Aspen Times reported. “Elmore stumbled as he walked, had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol, the document states.”
The man – first denying starting the fire, then admitting to it and then denying it again – was eventually arrested and booked into jail, the Aspen Times reported.
None of the residents were injured, according to the police department. The case is still under investigation.
