Rare white hummingbird brightens scene at arboretum

Normally, the feathers of an Anna’s Hummingbird are bright, iridescent shades of emerald, pink and gray, reports Audubon.org.

Then there’s the white hummingbird that’s been at a California arboretum since May. The bird has leucism, a developmental condition resulting in the loss of pigmentation, Audubon.org says.

But most birds affected by leucism have some color. The bird at the University of California Santa Cruz Arboretum is entirely white.
