A Michigan car dealership posted a sign discouraging people from giving handouts to a panhandler who apparently refused a job offer.

According to Detroit-based NBC affiliate WDIV-TV, the Brighton Honda dealership placed a message under the hood of a car asking people to donate to a different, “more worthy cause” after the man turned down a full-time, $10 an hour position with the company, saying his current way of life was more lucrative.

Photos of the sign have since gone viral. It reads:

Please Do Not give anything to this Panhandler. We offered him a full-time job at $10.00/HR. He said: “I make more than any of you” and he did not want a job. please donate to a more worthy cause

Brighton residents told WDIV-TV that two men often stand on the roadside outside of the dealership holding signs that say “Homeless, please help.” On Tuesday, Michigan State Police arrested the pair on suspicion of vagrancy and disorderly conduct, the station reported.

But they were apparently back outside the car lot a short time later with new signs that say “You can't afford a one-bedroom apartment on $10 per hour” and “The median income in Livingston County is $70,000.”

The Honda dealership has since removed it’s message, according to the station.
