Find statements of interest from state employees
Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

The records: Statements of substantial interest filed by state employees, including legislators and other elected officials.
Why you’d want them: To get a broader picture of what could influence state employees’ decisions as well as a look into potential conflicts of interest.
Where you get them: The documents are available through the Kansas Secretary of State’s Office at www.kssos.org. Click on the “Elections and Legislative” link from the menu on the left side of the home page and then on the “Substantial Interests” link. Then click on the “View SSI” link.
How much it costs: The information is free. You will have to sign up for an account to view the records.
