Some Wichita latchkey, food programs plan to extend services
Several Wichita summer child care and food program sites will extend the dates they serve children because of changes to the district calendar that moved the first day of school to Aug. 24.
According to information on the district’s website, 15 of the 24 Wichita schools that offer summer child care programs – commonly known as “summer latchkey” – plan to extend their programs past the previously published end date.
Changes depended on staff availability at each site, officials said.
Dodge Elementary will extend its program through July 29.
The following schools will operate summer latchkey through Aug. 5: Allen, Black, Earhart, Griffith, Horace Mann, Hyde, Isely, Minneha, Peterson and Riverside.
And the following schools will operate summer latchkey through Aug. 12: Benton, College Hill, Enterprise and Linwood.
Parents with questions about the program are encouraged to talk with their child’s latchkey program director.
