The first day of school for most children in the Wichita district would be Aug. 18 – nearly a week later than last year – and spring break would be a day longer, according to a proposed calendar school board members will consider Monday.

The proposed 2015-16 calendar has the same number of in-service days, non-teaching duty days and conference release days as this year’s calendar – 17.

Most children would start classes on Aug. 18. Sixth- and ninth-graders would attend orientation Aug. 17.

Winter break for students would be Dec. 23 through Jan. 4, according to the proposed calendar. Teachers would have a non-teaching duty day Dec. 23 and an in-service day Jan. 4.

Spring break would be March 14-18, 2016, with work days for teachers the previous Thursday and Friday, March 10-11.

The last day of classes would be May 24, 2016.
