Wichita schools’ computer system will be down through the weekend

The Wichita school district’s computer systems will be down at least through the weekend as officials continue investigating a hacking attempt.

“We’re making progress, but we still don’t know” how long the investigation or corresponding computer shutdown will last, district spokeswoman Susan Arensman said Friday. “We’re at least being able to start some steps to hopefully bring the systems back up soon.”

The state’s largest school district disabled its Synergy student information system last weekend as a precaution while officials investigated a hacking attempt discovered Oct. 23. The system – along with its corresponding programs, ParentVue and StudentVue – manages student grades, attendance, emergency contacts and other information.
