Wichita public schools will again participate in the annual turkey drive for United Methodist Open Door, which helps supply Thanksgiving turkeys and other food for families.
The district will collect donations from 7 to 9 a.m. Friday at the Alvin Morris Administrative Center, 201 N. Water. Volunteers and JROTC cadets will be stationed along Water Street to take donations of frozen turkeys, canned goods or money.
This is the ninth year the district will participate in the turkey drive. Last year, Wichita schools collected 4,007 turkeys, 8,100 side items and canned goods and nearly $14,000 in monetary donations.
Among many Wichita schools, particularly high schools, the drive is an intense competition to collect the most turkeys or pounds of food and deliver them in parades or decorated vehicles. To contribute, inquire at your child’s school this week or take your donation to the Morris Center on Friday.
