State school board names candidates for education commissioner
The Kansas State Board of Education on Wednesday named four candidates for the position of education commissioner.
Brad Neuenswander, who has served as interim commissioner since former commissioner Diane DeBacker stepped down from the post earlier this year, is a candidate. The others are: John D. Barge, state superintendent of schools in Georgia; Gillian Chapman, associate superintendent for Shawnee Mission public schools; and Randall Watson, superintendent of the McPherson school district.
The board is searching for a new commissioner after DeBacker stepped down from the job to become an adviser to the director general of the Abu Dhabi Education Council in the United Arab Emirates.
The state school board will conduct candidate interviews Nov. 5 and 6, according to a news release from the Kansas Department of Education. The board expects to make an announcement at its November meeting, scheduled for Nov. 12 and 13.
