Wichita police posted officers at Heights High School on Thursday after a shooting threat was made and posted on social media earlier this week.

The department was made aware of the threat on Dec. 16, according to public information officer Rick Pena. Circulating Facebook posts allege the threat read, “I’m shooting up Heights December 18th, 2025.”

As a precautionary measure, Wichita Public Schools Strategic Communications Supervisor Susan Arensman said, parents were informed of the threat after the district filed a police report on Tuesday. Additionally, the Wichita Police department staffed additional police at the school on Thursday. Classes are set to continue as normal as students begin final exams.

“WPD investigators are actively looking into the incident in coordination with the Board of Education,” Pena wrote in an email to the Eagle.

Pena encouraged anyone with information about the threat to contact investigators at 316-268-4407.
