Wichita State University received a $1 million federal grant for state-of-the-art audiology equipment at the future Wichita Biomedical Campus in downtown, the U.S. Department of Commerce said Tuesday.

The grant dollars will be matched with local money which are expected to create roughly 50 jobs, according to a news release.

“The Biden-Harris Administration knows American workers fuel our country’s economic competitiveness, which is why we’re investing in the training programs Kansas workers need to get skills for in-demand jobs,” Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo said in the release. “This EDA investment will support workforce training in the audiology medical field, helping create a skilled workforce and increasing quality jobs in the region.”

The biomedical campus is a joint venture by WSU, WSU Tech and the University of Kansas. It broke ground in May. The first phase of the $300 million, 471,000-square-foot facility is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
