Wichita school district receives Leadership in Learning Award from KU

The Wichita school district received the 2014 Leadership in Learning Award from the University of Kansas Department of Special Education and the KU Center for Research on Learning.

The award honors USD 259’s implementation of the Kansas Multi-Tiered System of Supports, a districtwide plan to improve student achievement and address behavior issues.

During an award presentation last month, KU officials commended the district’s “extraordinary and inspired leadership” in implementing the plan, which took five years and involved teacher training and behavior plans that are consistent throughout the district. Randy Sprick’s Safe & Civil Schools program is part of MTSS, as well as consultant Anita Archer’s programs on explicit instruction.
