Here’s which Wichita schools programs will be open Thursday as water advisory lingers
The Wichita school district is continuing to make changes to its summer program schedules because of the boil water advisory issued Tuesday.
These programs will be open Thursday: latchkey, high-school in person programs that offer credits needed to graduate, high school athletics, summer food programs, the SCOPE program at Allison Middle school, the Air Capital Leadership Challenge Summer Camp and the Early College Academy students attending Friends University.
All participants are encouraged to bring their own water, and WPS will have clean water available as well.
Middle, elementary and pre-K programs and special programs including the extended school year program and the youth education and summer socialization program will be canceled Thursday.
These employees are still required to come to work: the central office staff, school based administrators and clerical staff, custodial staff scheduled to work, elementary summer school program site coordinators, nutrition services staff and staff involved in scheduled in-service training. All staff are encouraged to bring their own water, and WPS will have water available too.
The boil water advisory was issued at 4:15 p.m. yesterday and will last at least through Wednesday night. The earliest it could be rescinded is early Thursday morning, according to city officials.
