The advisory was issued at 4:15 p.m. and is expected to last at least 24 hours.

Middle, elementary and pre-K programs are canceled for Wednesday, as are the extended school year program and the youth education and summer socialization program.

These programs will continue as scheduled: latchkey, high school in-person programs that offer credits needed to graduate, high school athletics and summer food programs. Everyone participating in these programs is encouraged to bring their own water. Water also will be available through the school district.

These employees are still required to come to work: the central office staff, school based administrators and clerical staff, elementary summer school program site coordinators, nutrition services staff and staff involved in scheduled in-service training. All workers are asked to bring water, but WPS will have some available as well.

This is the second time in eight months that Wichita has been under a boil water advisory. Under an advisory, residents are asked to either drink bottled water or boil their water before consumption.
