Wichita’s class of 2020 will walk across stage, USD 259 superintendent says

USD 259 will hold graduation ceremonies for seniors after all.

On Friday, Superintendent Dr. Alicia Thompson announced graduation ceremonies will be held on July 25 and July 26 at either the Intrust Bank Arena or Century II Performing Arts & Convention Center. Graduation ceremonies were canceled in May after “life has been turned upside down” because of the novel coronavirus, Thompson said in a video posted on YouTube.

“We heard you loud and clear tell us that you wanted all of the pomp and circumstances that surrounds a traditional graduation ceremony,” Thompson said. “From walking across the stage in your cap and gown, to turning that tassel and tossing that cap when graduation becomes official.”

The event will be “guided by public health protocols in place at the time of our graduation events,” according to a news release. More information is available at usd259.org/seniors2020.
