Kansas school district closes for the week after death of para who had the flu
A school district in southeast Kansas has closed for the rest of the week after the death of an elementary school staff member who had the flu.
Columbus Schools USD 493 said Wednesday afternoon in a Facebook post that school was canceled on Thursday and Friday to ensure students are safe. The closure comes after a paraprofessional at Park Elementary School died, and her brother was hospitalized. They were both diagnosed with influenza type B.
The school identified the staff member as Kayauna Rose Zabel. An online obituary states that the 20-year-old woman had been married for a little more than six months before her death.
