Northwest High feeder schools launch new visitor security system Monday
Wichita schools in the Northwest High feeder pattern will begin implementing a new security system Monday that scans visitors’ driver’s licenses and checks them against a nationwide database of sex offenders.
Visitors who come to any school in the Northwest feeder pattern – Northwest, Wilbur, Benton, Kensler, McCollom, Peterson, Levy, Gateway, Little, Sowers, Greiffenstein, Wells and Chisholm Life – will be required to sign in with the Hall Pass system by scanning their driver’s license or other government-issued identification card each time they visit the school during bell hours.
This summer, Wichita district leaders voted to spend up to $200,000 to install scanners at all 91 school buildings this fall and train employees to use them. Schools will continue to implement the system at a rate of about one feeder pattern a week. All schools should be operational by Oct. 6.
Schools in the South High feeder pattern will be next to go online with the new system on Sept. 15.
